Coincidence or Synchronicity?

Reflecting on having my phone with me this morning

Published on: 2/7/2024

Cell phone buzzing on desk during a work session.

Yet another instance of a coincidental but meaningful signal from the universe this morning. My phone was on silent and I’d inadvertently left it on my bathroom counter. I considered leaving it in there so I could focus on my work without the temptation of scrolling through my apps. But I had a sense that I should grab it just in case my girlfriend tried to get ahold of me for some reason. So I went and grabbed it.

Not even a minute later the screen lit up and I saw that she was calling me. As I answered I could tell that she was crying. Her grandmother had suffered a stroke.

It’s likely that in the past I’d have taken a few hours to go and grab it. And in the past I’d have just brushed these events off as coincidental. But shit like this seems to be happening more and more. Or it is possible that ever since I started reading Julia Cameron and her concept of synchronicities I’ve simply been trying harder to create meaning and connection between such coincidences.

Regardless, I’m glad I had my phone on me when Cécile called.
